What is mental math, and how does it help my child?

The goal of Mental Maths is to help children overcome life’s challenges more successfully and realize their intellectual potential.

The method focuses on the equal development of both brain hemispheres to enable simultaneous usage.

This balanced development helps children become smarter, think logically, and solve problems more easily and quickly.

It improves not only maths skills but also many other essential skills observed in educational life. Fast calculation is just a supplementary tool.

How long does each class last?

Each session lasts 1 hour, with the teacher available online for an additional half hour if further explanation or a makeup lesson is needed.

Note: Makeup lessons can be scheduled with prior agreement at an extra cost of £8.

Do children need any special tools or materials for the course?

A basic abacus and special books provided by us are required.

Costs:

Books (Set): £30

Books + Abacus: £35

Abacus: £15

Books are ordered before the first session. Once your preferred session timetable is confirmed, we provide detailed next steps and the procedure for sending the books.

How will this program benefit my child in the long term?

The programme develops memory, concentration, analytical skills, and self-confidence – all beneficial in academics and life. Our experience shows it significantly aids success in the 11+ exams.

Can this program help my child who struggles with maths?

Absolutely! Our instructors tailor lessons to each child’s skill level, ensuring they gain confidence and a solid foundation.

Will my child need additional practice outside of session?

Yes, children are encouraged to spend 10-15 minutes daily on exercises provided to reinforce their learning.

Additional Questions

1. What is the best age to start?

We recommend starting around ages 5 or 6, when children’s brains are highly flexible. This developmental window lasts until about age 14, making it ideal for our program. Older children (14+) can still benefit, but progress might be slightly slower.

2. Will it improve maths results at school?

Mental maths isn’t just about fast calculation; it enhances overall problem-solving ability, often leading to better performance in all school subjects.

3. Can adults also use this method?

Currently, we do not offer courses for adults, but we are developing one. Children focus on foundational skills while adults work on enhancing existing abilities.

4. How big are the groups of students?

Instructors can effectively teach up to 1-7 children in a single group.

5. How does the mental maths programme differ from standard development programmes?

It’s not just about fast calculation; the method develops both sides of the brain, providing a balanced foundation for future success – leading to more independence, better study habits, and overall improved performance.

6. How long does it take to see results?

Each child progresses at their own pace, but on average, 8-12 months are needed to master abacus techniques for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with 1 weekly session plus 15 minutes of daily practice.

7. Lessons last one hour or more. Isn’t that too long for children?

Younger children can manage an hour if sessions include fun, interactive activities and breaks. Older children benefit from more in-depth exploration. Engagement and thoughtful planning are key.

8. Make-Up Lesson Policy

If a student requires a restorative lesson beyond the additional half-hour, an alternative session can be scheduled with the teacher for £8.
